Tahini Hot Chocolate

Mother nature has decided to skip fall altogether so here we are thick into winter...I'm exaggerating but it has been cold. My threshold for warmth is 40 degrees so once temps dip below that, I'm ready for everything warm and cozy--queue the hot chocolate, tahini hot chocolate!

Tahini. Have you had had it? Do you love it? Do you have any idea what it is? If you answered no to that last question, Tahini is a paste made of sesame seeds. Sesame seeds are ground up to form a thick paste that can be used as a spread, salad dressing, veggie topper, hot chocolate and so many other things. You might remember day 4 fig toast with caramel sauce from my 7 days of breakfast? The base of that caramel sauce is tahini! You may want to consider paring your tahini hot chocolate with fig toast for a delightful breakfast.

Tahini is so versatile and it is loaded with healthy fat. The next time you're at the grocery store, look for it in the international isle. You can also find it at Trader Joe's. 


1C almond milk

1TSP cardamom

1TSP ground ginger

1TSP ghee or unsalted butter

1/2TBS maca powder

1/2TBS cocoa powder

1 heaping TBS tahini

1 dash of maple syrup (more or less to sweeten)


Warm up all ingredients in a small pan over medium heat on the stove. Use a whisk, an immersion blender or blender to mix well. I prefer to blend so this gets nice and frothy. Enjoy!
